The connecting duct seals against the face of the intake with a rubber seal that allows the intake to move with the engine, preventing hot engine bay air from being drawn in. As an added benefit, because the duct replaces the main intake duct against the slam panel, the stock intake area behind the grill is left open - feeding cold air over the inlet manifold when the car is in motion for extra engine cooling.
